Elementary Corner
- Teacher's Guides - SeaWorld offers great lessons for many grade levels. Teachers can creatively incorporate Word into any of these lessons.
- Busy As a Bee - Often we use phrases when we write to create word pictures such as "busy as a bee." This lesson plan defines similes for students and gives you some helpful writing ideas to encourage your students to write their own. Instead of using paper and crayons, have your students use MS Word and clip art
to illustrate colorful word pictures.
- My Pet Goldfish - This cute lesson plan combines some important skills. Have your students type the unpunctuated sentences into MS Word then have them correct the punctuation and add some goldfish clip art. If you are pressed for time you can type it and then place the file on your computer's desktop. Have each student open the file, make the changes, and then save the file under their own name in My Documents. That way you can see what each student has done. Your
file becomes a template for them!
- My Proudest Moment - This lesson plan for older elementary students involves the students interviewing three people about their proudest moment. They can prepare their questions ahead of time by typing them into MS Word. The students can also type their journalist report after they have conducted the interview. MS Word has many features like columns that the students could use to create a
newsletter summarizing their interviews. This lesson encourages them to
illustrate their journalistic summary as well.
- 2Cool Animations - It is always so much fun to illustrate your MS Word project with clip art. Here is a clip art site with lots of free graphics. Make sure you notice the drop down menu after you have clicked on a category for the clip art. MS Word 2000 supports animated clip art so your document will be too cool!
