Course Description
This course is designed to provide teachers with the necessary skills to successfully use HyperStudio to create quality multimedia presentations and integrate them into classroom curriculum. Furthermore, teachers will learn how to use HyperStudio for student projects that enhance learning and critical thinking skills. Teachers will learn how to integrate HyperStudio into their specific classroom setting. Teacher-tested classroom projects, Web resources, examples of student projects, and integration ideas are an integral part of this course.


This online course consists of six modules taught over a six week period.
Skills, Hardware, and Software Requirements
Students are expected to have a very basic knowledge of how to use an Internet browser such as Netscape Navigator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, or America Online (AOL). Students must be familiar with e-mail and have an active e-mail account and Internet access. In addition, students must possess basic word processing skills.
The textbook includes a HyperStudio Evaluation CD-ROM. The step-by-step instructions in the textbook are tailored for use on a PC. Students can easily accomplish the projects using the Evaluation CD-ROM on a Macintosh computer, however there may be some slight variations.

Course Readings
The required textbook for this course is Teachers Discovering HyperStudio:Concepts and Integration by Gary B. Shelly, Thomas J. Cashman, Glenda A. Gunter, and Randolph E. Gunter (ISBN 0-7895-5841-6). The textbook and course materials will be provided for all students. In addition, online readings will be assigned during the course to enhance learning. These readings will be presented as annotated Web sites within the course content.

Course Outline
Module 1: Learning the Basics of Creating a HyperStudio Stack
Objectives: Students will demonstrate proficiency using basic skills to create a three card multimedia stack.

Module 2: Integrating the Basics of Creating a HyperStudio Stack
Objectives: Students will apply their knowledge using basic skills to create an integration-related project.
Content:
Culminating Assignment: Students will select one integration idea that supports their specific classroom curriculum and create a four card stack utlizing basic HyperStudio skills.

Module 3: Using Transparent Text Objects, Hyperlinks, and the Extras Menu
Objectives: Students will demonstrate proficiency creating a background from a graphic, adding hypertext links to the Internet, using Navigation Extras, printing options and storyboards.
Content:
Culminating Assignment: Students will create a four-card stack entitled "Computers in Space." Students will submit a 25 - 50 word paragraph reflection on how a HyperStudio presentation can be integrated into a technology-enriched curriculum.

Module 4: Integrating Transparent Text Objects, Hyperlinks, and the Extras Menu
Objectives: Students will expand and integrate skills from odule Three.
Content:
Culminating Assignment: Students will select one integration idea that supports their specific classroom curriculum and create a four card stack integrating featured HyperStudio skills.

Module 5: Using Animation, Quicktime Movies, and the Extras Menu
Objectives: Students will demonstrate proficiency creating a custom background and buttons using the Effects menu, adding animation, using QuickTime Virtual Reality and movies, and the Menu Tamer.
Content:
Culminating Assignment: Students will create a four-card stack entitled "An Exciting Career in the Travel Industry."

Module 6: Integrating Animation, Quicktime Movies, and the Extras Menu
Objectives: Students will expand and integrate skills from odule Five.
Content:
Culminating Assignment: Students will select one integration idea that supports their specific classroom curriculum and create a four card stack integrating featured HyperStudio skills. Students will submit a 25 - 50 word reflection on how students in their
classroom can use HyperStudio to enhance a classroom project.
