AI Enhanced Teaching, Lesson Planning, and Digital Literacy

This course provides educators with a comprehensive foundation in AI-powered teaching tools that can enhance curriculum development, digital literacy instruction, research strategies, and student engagement. Participants will explore AI-driven lesson planning tools, chatbot creation, IEP customization, and ethical AI use in education.

By the end of this course, educators will be proficient in integrating AI tools into their teaching practices, using technology to personalize learning experiences, streamline administrative tasks, and support diverse student needs, including those with IEPs (Individualized Education Programs).

  • Hands-on AI Applications: Educators will create AI-enhanced lesson plans, develop personalized IEPs, build interactive chatbots, and analyze AI’s role in research and digital literacy.
  • Real-World Integration: This course focuses on practical AI use in K-12, higher education, and special education, ensuring that participants can immediately apply these skills in their teaching environments.

Artificial intelligence is a highly dynamic topic and new information is produced rapidly. For this reason, there is no text to be purchased for this course.  Reading assignments include all of the content within the fully developed online modules as well as web resources that are embedded within each module.


Graduate participants earn 3 semester hours of graduate credit and will receive a transcript from one of our partner institutions below. Professional development participants will receive a certificate of completion for 45 hours of professional developments credit for face-to-face classes and 60 hours of professional development credit for online classes.

Module Two: AI-Powered Lesson Planning

Module Three: Customizing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) with AI

  1. Design an AI-powered lesson plan, chatbot, or IEP customization strategy and submit a detailed report.

Objectives
  • Utilize AI tools to design adaptive, interactive lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards.
  • Develop research skills using AI-driven platforms to gather, summarize, and organize academic materials.
  • Create Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) using AI tools to customize learning experiences for students with special needs.
  • Enhance digital literacy by teaching students how to responsibly evaluate and engage with AI-generated content.
  • Develop custom AI chatbots that assist with instruction, grading, student Q&A, and interactive learning experiences.
  • Implement AI ethically while balancing technology with teacher expertise and student-centered learning approaches.
Important Information

Online 3-graduate credit courses are 13 weeks in length.

On-site weekend courses are held Friday evening from 6:00pm-9:00pm and Saturday/Sunday, 8:30am-5:30pm.

Weekday courses are Monday-Friday from 8:00am- 6:00pm.

It is the responsibility of the student to check with their state, county, district, or school to ensure that all requirements are being met by the course you're taking.

Students are required to purchase their own textbook, the information for which can be found here. If no book is required it will be specified on the list. We have copies of many of the textbooks should you wish to purchase directly from TEI. 

Professional development (PD) participants receive a certificate of completion from TEI for 45 hours of PD credit for face to face classes and 60 hours of PD credit for online classes. These certificates are mailed within one week of the end of the class and reflect the course title, dates of attendance, and credit hour information.
